Unlock and Jailbreak iPhone 3.1.2 baseband 05.11.07 using BlackSn0w (or Blacksnow)

327

Update: BlackRa1n works with every iPhone and iPod touch model out there. However for some models of iPod Touch, it is still tethered. The steps are almost same for all devices.

Update2: A real fix for WiFi issues (not the usual “Reset Network Settings”) See here: iPhone 3.1.2 Blacksn0w WiFi Fix

Geohot released Blacksnow (or Blacksn0w) for unlocking and jailbreaking iPhone 3.1.2 . The release is working as per his post on his blog. You’ll need a working WiFi or mobile internet connection (data access plan) to install Cydia/Rock/Blacksn0w.  Here is the step by step guide to unlock and jailbreak iPhone 3G and 3GS 3.1.2 baseband 05.11.07 using blacksnow (or blacksn0w):

blackra1n blacksn0w

For iPhone 3G and 3GS:

  1. Update your iPhone to new 3.1.2 firmware directly using iTunes or by using the direct download links and using shift+restore on iTunes. It is better to directly update the device using iTunes. Do not directly update from iTunes.
  2. Download and install Blackra1n RC3 from http://www.blackra1n.com.
  3. Run the software to Ra1n your iPhone (Click the “make it ra1n” icon).Takes about 30 seconds to 1 minute.
  4. Important Update: If you are on Windows Vista or Windows 7, then using “Windows XP compatibility mode” may cause the iPhone to hang at recovery mode. If you are getting the same problem, then try using Blackra1n as is- without any compatibility mode. This may solve the problem. (Thanks to AngelB for pointing this out)

    blackra1n blacksn0w

  5. After iPhone reboots, open blackra1n.app and you should now see “sn0w”.
  6. blackra1n with blacksn0w

  7. Click “sn0w” to install Blacksn0w. This will Unlock your iPhone 3G, 3GS running 3.1.2 firmware on 05.11.07 baseband.

For iPhone 3G and 3GS who previously installed blackra1n:

If you are a loyal blackra1n user who kept the blackra1n.app on your iPhone, run it. You will see Icy replaced by an option “ra1n”. Install this to upgrade your app. After upgrading, run blackra1n.app again. You will see “sn0w”. Install this, and enjoy your unlocked iPhone.

Update: If you’ve previously used Blackra1n but uninstalled it or you’ve used Pwnage tool/Redsn0w to unlock, then you’ll need to install Blacksn0w using Cydia. Use http://blackra1n.com/ as repo.

For iPhone 2G

It works for iPhone 2G too. Follow steps 1-3 above. At step 4, there won’t be any “sn0w” option. Just tap Cydia and/or Rock at this step. Rest of steps remains same.

If you are having any problem or query regarding Blackra1n, Blacksn0w, Jailbreak or any other query, Please ask them in comments. I’ll be glad to help you out

Update: A real fix for WiFi issues (not the usual “Reset Network Settings”) See here: iPhone 3.1.2 Blacksn0w WiFi Fix

I have installed Blackra1n on my 3G 3.1.2 iphone. After installing it I ran sn0w. It looks like got installed successfully because I can see post install log showing message successful. Today, I put in Fido sim card in it. It picked up signal for Fido and even got text message from Fido that I was using Data apps on non data SIM card. But it was still showing connect to Itune message on iphone and won't let me open it up. Just showing Make Emergency cal only message.

I will appreciate your help. Should I connect it to iTune? Will it fix the problem?

    • Reshadat says:

Is it a 3G or 3GS? Did you reboot the device? If it is a 3GS, then you'll need to run blackra1n every time you reboot your device. Also, are you using Vista?

      • rookie8155 says:

Thanks for your reply back. My phone is 3G and I ran blackra1n from Windows XP. First I tried on Windows Vista then I tried it on XP as per your recommendation. The problem is that the install finishes without any errors but it still does not unlock SIM card and promts to connect to iTune. I also Cydia to jailbreak it. Still same problem, it will allow me to install any apps.

Hey guys. I just moved from the Us back to Europe, and looking to jailbreak/unlock my Iphone 3G. I followed the instructions, and everything's cool besides the fact that I don't have a data plan yet in my country.

I still have the old US sim card in the Iphone .. if I replace it with a local SIM card (of a friend) who has a data plan on it .. do you think it will work?

Or is there any other way to do this without having a wifi / internet connection ?

    Thanks a lot 🙂

    • Reshadat says:

      Hi,
yeah that would work. You can use your friend's sim and install cydia
and blacksn0w. Currently there is not method to do it offline.

Do ask if you have further queries

    Hi all,

I've been trying to jailbreak my 3G 3.1.2 with 05.11.07 baseband with no success. The process of jailbreaking goes through without any hiccups EXCEPT that it it DOES NOT have the Blackrain icon on the sprinboard upon boot-up! I tried both Win XP and Vista (following their specific insturctions of course) but with no success!

Please help. I'm a new iPhone user.

Did you update the firmware using iTunes first? Do it with original apple firmware and not the custom ones. Reply back if you have any other problem

Download latest 3.1.2 firmware using direct download links here: http://www.technonix.com/2009/10/iphone-3-1-2-f

Then in iTunes, hold the Alt/Option key and click “restore” at the same time. Browse for the downloaded ipsw file and it'll restore to fresh 3.1.2.

the new iPhone 3GS has updated Bootrom, which means you need to use blackra1n everytime you reboot your device. You don't have any option right now. We'll, however, post about it as soon as it is possible. You can subscribe to our feeds by using the email form in top of page to remain updated about new tools.

No matter how many ways or times I try to Jailbreak/Unlock my brand new Iphone 3GS, I get the msg “Different SIM detected: Please connect to ITunes” when I put my TMobile SIM in. Here's the steps:

    1. I used blackrain per the instructions without ITunes running. I hit make it rain. Everything looks good like its down loading.
    2. I enable my wireless on the phone and launch the blackrain icon on my phone. I install both Cydia and snow. Everything appears to install ok
    3. I swap my ATT sim with my TMobile sim and get the above error msg. I can make and receive calls with the TMobile sim in. The weird thing is when I receive a call, it is as if my contacts are loaded because the persons name appears that is calling me. It also recognizes that it is a TMobile sim by the Tmobile at the top left hand corner of the phone.
    4. The extra things I have done to try to make it work.
    a. Restore the iphone using ITunes then started the process all over again.
    b. Repeated the process with 3G enabled and disabled
    c. Tried to install Blackrain with either the Sim cards (Tmobile or At&T) and with none
    d. After install of snow & cydia with At&t sim, removed Sim, did reboot then installed Tmobile sim

    Here are the particulars on my phone: Version 3.1.2 (7D11); s/n 32946 (1st 5 #s); model MC123LL; firmwre: 05.11.07

I am running from a Windows 7 machine. I also tried with a Window XP machine

    • Reshadat says:

Are you using blackra1n with AT&T sim in place? Then after jailbreak, you swap the sim? IF you use AT&T sim, then your iPhone will not hacktivate, hence the problem arises. Keep your T-mobile sim in place, jailbreak, install sn0w and cydia and disable 3G. That would do the trick.

just wondering if i can download the 3.1.2 update directly off of itunes, without using blackra1n, my phone is a 2g unlocked, running 3.1(7c144) carrier 5.0. firmware 4.05.04_G on Tmobile

i dont need the jailbreak, i just want to keep the unlock, ive updated my phone strait from itunes ever since i unlocked this past winter

also, youtube has been locked ever since i think the 3.0 upgrade, any fixes aside from Cyndia apps?

    • Reshadat says:

If you are on 4.05.04 baseband, you'll loose unlock when upgrading. Its best to use PwnageTool to upgrade to 3.1.2. Or if you don't have MAC, you can use blackra1n. Both will work. But PwnageTools are having more positive reviews.

Hello. I have some questions before I start jailbreaking. I live in Cyprus. I have a 3gs 3.1.2 baseband 05.11.07. Here we do not have sim cards with providers (connection to internet). I want to ask if something goes wrong, like no signal or internet connection, I can still restore with itunes or will I have a bricked iphone? I have been studying all comments through internet and I am pretty sure I know what I will do. Please answer.

    • Reshadat says:

Your iPhone will not brick. If there is no internet connection, then you'll not be able to unlock. So you'll not be able to use your sim card. But thats not bricking. You can still restore it using iTunes and activate using AT&T sim. If you have WiFi, then you'll be able to unlock.

ia have an iphone 3gs 16g and i'm with telus right now with data plan, this is the question if i jailbreak my phone am i gonna have problems with my data plan and data usage? coz i heard don't know if this is true that once youre phone is jailbroken and you have a data plan eventhough you don't use the internet you always go over the limit can someone please explain this to me coz i did a search first but can't find results thanks

    • Reshadat says:

No thats just rumors. You can install SBSettings after you jailbreak and turn off edge/mobile internet to avoid accidental or background access of data plan.

Jailbreaking does not have anything to do with data limits.

  20. Nonpro says:

Before upgrading the firmware, should we insert the sim card or wait until the iPhone is unlocked & than inset it??? As I already unlocked it & when I inserted the sim from tmobile, it dint accept & doesn't show network??? help plz….

the other thing I've noticed is that the band is still the same i.e. 04.05.04_G..so dont know if the iphone is unlocked or jailbroken correctly….

      plz help???

      • Reshadat says:

NO, you do not need to jailbreak again. You'll have to disable 3g to get Tmobile to work.

Also, the baseband should be 5.11.07. Use the original apple firmware and use the guide above to unloc your iPhone

    • Reshadat says:

You dont have to install blacksn0w for iPhone 2G. There is no need for that. First- restore to 3.1.2 firmware- the original fimware. Then use blackra1n. You don't have to install blacksn0w from cydia.

Follow the above steps exactly. And if you still have problem, then reply back stating exact steps you followed.

  24. Dutch says:

    Hi Reshadat,

Upgraded my 2G using iTunes to 3.1.2 – firmware stays at 4.5.4. Jailbroke using Blackra1n, installed Cydia fine, then Bootneuter. Bootneuter does not unlock (seems to run fine but then hangs on checking settings). Any thoughts how to unlock? Thanks

    • Reshadat says:

There is no need of bootneuter. The baseband cannot remain at 4.5.4. You must have used custom firmwares. Use the original apple 3.1.2 firmwares from here: http://www.technonix.com/2009/10/iphone-3-1-2-f

Then use blackra1n. no need of bootneuter or other tools. Do exactly as above. Reply back if you have any problem.

I have a 2g Iphone with version 3.1.2 I installed the Blackra1n app and the phone became unlocked, i have wifi and everything but i have no signal. I even downloaded blacksnow through Cydia (which i think i don´t need) and that didn´t work either. I tried to jailbreak it over and over again changing ports and following every instruction i saw and nothing. Any ideas?

I have tried to used this program to jailbrake/unlock my 3g to no luck? It just gets stuck on the “done wait for reboot” pop-up window. What gives?

  26. nukelear7 says:

I as well have an iphone 2g and used the blackrain app to jailbreak it. Now it says no service when i install an at and t sim card. How do i unlock this to accept the sim card?

    • Reshadat says:

Ther is no need of unlock if you are using AT&T sim. If you have AT&T card, then there is no need of hacktivation too. In simple words, put your AT&T card in iPhone, and then start the above process from scratch.

  27. rick says:

My phone still boots up to recovery without compatibility mode, using windows 7…any help please? had new software also..and from AT&T

I have succesfully jailbrake/unlock my iPhone but now I cannot send or receive any texts and I'm having issues with no signal. I'm using a TMobile SIM with 3G disabled.

  29. Cheshiretao says:

    Let me get this straight.
    1. update firmware (through itunes my 2g remains04.05.04 so i'm downloading it from you).
    2. download blackra1n
    3. remove at&t simcard and insert tmobile simcard.
    4. turn off 3g (no option under settings that i can find on my 2g)
    5. run blackra1n from desktop
    6. run blackra1n from iphone and install cydia/rock

  30. Cheshiretao says:

but after downloading your update, shift restoring it, and waiting for it to load my iphone 2g is still running 04.05.04 g firmware. now what?

  31. manny says:

Ok, I am not sure if others are having this problem or if there is a solution for it (I am hoping).

I just got an iphone from ebay, it works fine with at&t (i tested it out), however, i need to unlock to use t-mobile. I have read the instructions on this blog (and similar everywhere else) and followed it step by step. However, after the “sn0w” install, the phone can't seem to find the network, it searches for a while and then shows no service.

I started over again to make sure I get it right:
    1. I restored the iphone (3G) to 3.1.2 using iTunes. It now has 3.1.2 with Modem FW 05.11.07
    2. Installed a new version of blackra1n and ran it and have the icon. Turned off 3G & Data Roaming and used wifi to install sn0w and once complete, turned wifi off and installed t-mobile sim card and got the same message.

I have tried this 3 different ways not, rebooting after sn0w install, installing sim card during install. I am getting no luck here.

    Any advice?

I've restored to 3.1.2 using Itunes and the direct dowload from here but neither one changes my firmware to 05.11.07. What can I do?

I’m selling my unlocked 2G running 3.0 and baseband 04.05.04 and want to delete all of my content without having to go through the sometimes challenging unlock process again.

    MY SOLUTION:

    – I chose to delete my txt messages, phone favorite lists, recent call list, safari preferences, etc manually. and it worked.
    – I created a new calendar and address book group with no data in them and told iTunes to Sync only with this data
    – I unchecked all music, photos, Podcasts, etc.

… It worked! I’m sure it’s not the cleanest iPhone, but it’s better than an iBrick… or spending an entire day stuck trying to unlock it again.

    ————

I’ve read through many posts on various websites trying to figure out how I would unlock the 2G currently running 3.0 and 04.05.04 baseband. Below is the solutions I’ve come to. I hope this information will be helpful to you. Good luck!

    ———–

unlocking 2G iPhone as of Jan 2010

    ——————————

    OPTION1 – BlackraIn

    1. update firmware (through itunes my 2g remains04.05.04 so i’m downloading it from you and it still doesn’t work).
    2. download blackra1n
    3. remove at&t simcard and insert tmobile simcard.
    4. turn off 3g (no option under settings that i can find on my 2g)
    5. run blackra1n from desktop
    6. run blackra1n from iphone and install cydia/rock

*** the above only seems to work if you follow this post:
this worked for me 11/13/09 iphone 2g 3.1.2 jailbroken with blackra1n. after bootneuter i had to install afc2add from cydia so i could ssh into iphone, and diskaid trial for my computer to access the root menu through usb. next i went root>private>var>root>library and made a copy of the lockdown folder to my desktop(just for safety reasons). next i removed the lockdown folder from device(some web sites keeped saying to replace it with another which you could download but that wasnt working for me so i just had to remove the lockdown folder from device and close disk aid). rebooted iphone and it work with my t-mobile sim. hope it helps

    http://modmyi.com/forums/unlocking-activation/690227-iphone-2g-3-1-2-unlock.html

    ——————————

    OPTION 2 – Redsnow 3.0

keep version 3.0 and use Redsn0w to unlock

    ——————————

    OPTION 3 – Pnwg 3.12

Use Pnwg to create custom 3.12 firmware. Upgrade to this firmware and follow their unlock procedure.

I previously used Blackra1n to jailbreak my iPhone. After I installed winterboard I deleted blackra1n.app and cydia from my iPhone. Now I want to put more stuff on my iPhone – I don't seem able to get the blackra1n.app back on my iPhone. I am at ver 3.1.2 and 5.11.7 … I run blackra1n and it reboots – I see the familiar fullscreen wanton look – and the PC says 'done, wait for restart' … The iPhone doesnt' restart – it simply goes from the image to the lock screen. At this point – I swipe my finger and look for the blackra1n app. No such luck. Ideas ? Thanks 🙂

    Hi,
I found an iphone at a nightclub…it was dead until i plugged it in. No one called and I cant get into it to find any info on it without a passcode. How do I get around that?

What do I do if I already have an unlocked IPhone and just want to update the software to 3.1.2? Cydia is currently installed in my phone, but if I were to upgrade and relock the phone do I simply follow these steps to get it unlocked again?
