Jailbreak iPhone 3G iOS 4.0.1 Using Redsn0w 0.9.5b5-5

iOS 4.0.1 has been released for iPhone 4, 3GS and 3G. 3G users can use Redsn0w 0.9.5b5-5 to jailbreak their iPhone. Redsn0w jailbreak is currently only for iPhone 3G. Here is the step by step guide to Jailbreak iPhone 3G iOS 4.0.1 Using Redsn0w 0.9.5b5-5.

Download iOS 4.0.1 for iPhone 3G from here: Download iPhone iOS 4.0.1. Update to iOS 4.0.1 using iTunes.
Download redsn0w: Mac or Windows.
Start redsn0w 0.9.5b5-5 and point it to iOS 4.0 firmware and not iOS 4.0.1.
Select “Install Cydia” and click next.
Make sure that your device is both turned off and connected to computer.
Follow on screen instructions to put the device in recovery mode.
Now sit back and let redsn0w do its work. Once the process finishes, you’ll have a fully jailbroken iPhone 3G running iOS 4.0.1.

Apple has released and update to iOS 4- iOS 4.1. This is a developer only release. Only people registered with Apple as developers will have the access to iOS 4.1.

Changes in iOS 4.1

New Baseband (02.07.01)
Signal Bars are fixed and are taller
New look for Game Center
Camera Switch and Flash buttons reposition in landscape mode
Add Favorite as voice or FaceTime.
Spell Check can be turned off in Settings

Sn0wbreeze is updated by ih8sn0w team to jailbreak iPhone 3GS, 3G and iPod Touch 2G and 3G on iOS 4.0. It works with Windows XP/ Vista/ Windows 7.

Warning:

It does not work with iPhone 4
You need to have your SHSH blobs saved for 3.1.2 for iPhone 3GS (new bootrom)
The jailbreak would be tethered for iPhone 3GS(new bootrom), iPod MC model

Here is the step by step guide:

Start Sn0wbreeze and select “Simple Mode”.
Browse for the iOS 4. Sn0wbreeze will verify the file.
Click Yes if you want to activate your iPhone. Only select No if you are on officially supported network like AT&T.
Sn0wbreeze will now create the custom ipsw file.
Now open your iTunes and click on your iPhone from sidebar. Press “shift” on your keyboard and click on restore. iTunes will ask for the ipsw file. Give the path to the custom ipsw file you’ve created.
Now Relax and let iTunes complete the restore process. After it completes, you’ll have a fully jailbroken iDevice running iOS 4.

Blacksnow (Blacksn0w) Unlocks iPhone 4.0 (iOS 4.0) Firmware

Blacksn0w has been updated by msft.guy to unlock iPhone OS 4.0 (iOS 4.0). The baseband needs to be preserved and can only be done if you’ve used PwnageTool to jailbreak. It is very buggy and should not be used by newbies. There is no Cydia installer and it has to be manually uploaded to iPhone and executed. Also, the unlock is tethered, which means you’ll have to re-execute blacksn0w if you reboot.

Jailbreak your iphone 3GS using PwnageTool using the instructions posted here.
Download blacksn0w patched from here.
Extract the package and upload it to your iPhone via SSH, SFTP, iPhone Explorer or DiskAid.
Chmod CommCenter to 0644 and blacksn0w.dylib and blacksn0w.sh to 0755
Execute blacksn0w.sh via mobile terminal and wait for it to finish.

You’ll now have iPhone 3GS 4.0 fully unlocked. Remember the release is still a hack and newbie users should wait for the official releases.

Use PwnageTool Bundles to Jailbreak iPhone 3GS 4.0 (iOS 4.0 GM)

PwnageTool is a tool that can be used to upgrade and jailbreak iPhone OS to 4.0 without upgrading the baseband. This is necessary for carrier unlock using blacksn0w. This works only for Mac. Here is what you’ll need:

Warning: This is intended only for advanced users. I’m not responsible if it bricks your iPhone or starts a nuclear halocast.

Supported Devices: iPhone 3GS with old bootrom and jailbroken atleast once via redsn0w, sn0wbreeze, blackra1n or PwnageTool. This is not for people jailbroken via Spirit.

Here is the step by step guide:

Place PwnageTool.app on your desktop
Right click PwnageTool.app and click “Show Package Content”
Browse to Contents>Resources>Firmware Bundles
Copy the custom bundle iPhone2,1_4.0_8A293_bundle.bundle from iPhone2,1_4.0_8A2943_bundle.zip to FirmwareBundles of Pwnagetool.app
Right click on redsn0w.app and ‘Show Package Contents’ and browse to Contents>MacOS> . Copy Cydia.tar.gz on your desktop and extract its content.
Now you will need to copy Cydia into PwnageTool.app. To do that, right click on Pwnagetool.app and “Show Package Contents”. Browse to : Contents>Resources>CustomPackages> right click on “CydiaInstaller.bundle” and “Show Package Contents” > Files> and overwrite all the files with the ones you just extracted from redsn0w.
That’s it. Now load PwnageTool.app and create iOS 4.0 custom firmware for iPhone 3GS
Once you got the custom .ipsw, you need to restore iOS 4.0 via iTunes. Once you restore, you’ll have fully jailbroken iPhone 3GS with iOS 4.0

Download Redsn0w 0.9.5 beta 5 to Jailbreak iPhone and iPod Touch OS 4 (iOS 4)

Redsn0w 0.9.5 beta has been released to jailbreak iOS 4 (iPhone OS 4). It supports iPod Touch 2G too. It enables Multitasking and Home screen wallpaper for iPod Touch 2G.

This release of redsn0w is a beta and hence does not hactivate. Also, do not go near this if you need unlock. This release is suitable only developers. Also you need iTunes 9.2 which is only available on mac. Hence it is a Mac only release.

iPhone 4G/HD Announced in WWDC 2010

Apple’s World Wide Developer Conference 2010 was held on 7th July 2010. The conference unveiled iPhone 4G/HD and iPhone OS 4.0 which is named iOS 4.

Here are the details of iPhone 4G/HD:

All new sleek design. It has a rectangular shape and is slimmer than iPhone 2G/3G/3GS.It has split buttons for volume, unlike the current iPhone 3GS, all made in stainless steel.
The Stainless steel rim acts as antenna improving the reception quality.
iPhone 4 has Apple A4 processor with 128 MB DDR SDRAM. It has good Power management features
The 3.5-inch screen has a resolution of 960 × 640 pixels. Apple calls is the Retina Display, and it has four times as many pixels as the current iPhone 3GS’ display.
iPhone 4 has longer battery life, thanks to new large battery and Apple A4 processor.
New 5 Mega Pixel camera with LED flash. There is a front camera too.
iPhone 4 has gyroscope, which means it has 6-axis motion sensing capability
iPhone 4 uses microsim.
It has two microphones for noise cancellation.

Price and availability

The Phone 4 will be available in black or white on June 24, and will cost $199 and $299 for 16 and 32GB.

Jailbreak iPad 3.2, All iPhone and iPods Untethered with Spirit

A new all in one jailbreaking software has been released by @comex named Spirit Jailbreak. The software can jailbreak (and not unlock) all the iPhones (2G, 3G and 3GS), iPod Touch(1G, 2G and3G) and iPad (WiFi and Edge) running latest firmwares. The jailbreak is untethered, which means that you can reboot your device without the need of a computer. However, there are two problems:

No Hacktivation. The device must already be activated, which means the device should not be at “Emergency calls only” or “Connect to iTunes” screen.
No unlock support. If you need unlock, do not go near this. You will loose unlock, possibly forever. The current versions of blackra1n and ultrasn0w are not compatible with latest firmwares.

Note: Windows Vista and 7 users may get an error c0000005. To resolve this, run the program in “Windows 98/ME” compatibility mode.

iPhone OS 4.0 Launched with New (and not so new) Features

Apple launched the new iPhone (as well as iPad and iPod Touch) OS in their iPhone OS 4.0 event. The feature list is massive and we now have multitasking officially available.

The new OS will ship in June (Fall for iPad), and a developer preview is already available. Below are some of the best new features of iPhone OS 4.0.

Multitasking: The most awaited feature. Finally Multitasking comes to iPhone (officially that is). Multitasking is limited to audio streaming, VoIP and GPS apps, and some more instances. This is only available for iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch 3G. iPhone 3G, 2G, iPod Touch 2G and 1G will not have multitasking capabilities. However, jailbroken iPhone and iPod Touch users can already do mutitasking via Backgrounder. And yes, Backgrounder works on all iPhone and iPod Touch devices.
Fast app switching: Meant to reopnen apps running in background. Only certain part of app is running in background. For jailbreakers, this is already available via ProSwitcher or Circuitous.
Local notifications: Notifications can now be made locally within apps, and not just with remote servers.
App folders: The icons on the springboard can be organized in folders. Jailbreakers can achieve this via Categories
Unified Inbox: A new mail.app upgrade that allows users to have unified mailbox, which means single inbox will show emails from all the different service providers.
iBooks: A new ebook reader app that competes with Kindle app.
Custom background: Users can now have custom background on springboard and not just the lockscreen. WinterBoard for jailbroken users do the same thing, and mush more like video backgrounds.
Game Center: A central gaming network much like the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live.
5X Digital Zoom: At last. This too is available via several apps on Cydia as well as AppStore
Bluetooth Keyboards: This one is a derivative from iPad. You can now use Bluetooth keyboard on iPhone. This too is available for jailbroken iphone users via BTstack keyboard.
Many other new miscellaneous features like new polished interface, 1500 new developer APIs and many more.

The new OS comes this summer, and iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch 3G will have all the features. iPhone 3G, 2G and iPod Touch 2G and 1G will get some new features only. For iPad, the new OS comes this Fall.
