Google’s new Public DNS is like a new OpenDNS. It claims to be faster, secure and private. Here are the steps needed to change the DNS to the new Google Public DNS addresses for Windows XP, Windows 7 and Ubuntu 9.10. The internet speed would be unaffected but the initial wait times would be decreased a bit.  It has absolutely no effect on download speed.

Use Google Public DNS on Windows XP

1. Open Control panel and goto “Network and Internet Connection”.



2. Click “Network Connections”.



3. Select your Internet Connection and right Click on it. Select “Properties”.



4. Select TCP/IP and click “Properties”.



5. Check the DNS section at the bottom. If there are already entries on it, Write them down on a safe place. If “Obtain the DNS server Automatically” is selected, select “Use the following DNS server addresses” and enter these two addresses: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4



6. Click Ok to Finish.
7. If you can’t open any site, try rebooting.

Use Google Public DNS on Windows 7

1. Open Control panel and select “Network and Internet”.



2. Open “Network and Sharing center”



3. Select “Change adapter settings”.



4. Right click on your active internet connection and choose “Properties”.



5. Select “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IP v4)” and click Properties.



6. Check the DNS section at the bottom. If there are already entries on it, Write them down on a safe place. If “Obtain the DNS server Automatically” is selected, select “Use the following DNS server addresses” and enter these two addresses: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4



7. Click Ok to Finish.
8. If you can’t open any site, try rebooting.

Use Google Public DNS on Ubuntu 9.10

1. Goto System menu, click Preferences, then goto Network Connections.
2. Select the connection:
3. To use Google Public DNS for an Ethernet connection, select the Wired tab, then select your network interface in the list.
4. To use Google Public DNS for a wireless connection, select the Wireless tab, then select the appropriate wireless network.
5. Click Edit, then select the IPv4 Settings tab.
6. If the selected method is Automatic (DHCP), open the dropdown and select Automatic (DHCP) addresses only instead. If the method is set to something else, do not change it.
7. In the DNS servers field, enter the following addresses separated by a space: 8.8.8.8  8.8.4.4
8. Click Apply to save the change. If you are prompted for a password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
9. If you cant open any site, try rebooting.

External Links are shown on a separate integrated window. The client is itself very basic, but has some very cool features like “shake to reload or logout“.

It is not a free app. Costing $0.99, it is not much different than the standard Google Wave iPhone interface. If you are an avid google wave user, then I’d recommend that you wait for a more advanced application.

7. Atrochatro: The interface of this site is horrible. But the SMS delivery time is OK. Can be used to send free sms to mobile India.
8. Smslife: It can be used to send free messages to India. It also has various other features like Games, Mobile Gallery and Mobile News.
9. IndyaRocks: IndyaRocks is a social networking site which also has the facility of sending free sms.
10. SMSwala: SMSwala provides both free and paid free SMS service.

We heard your requests loud and clear, and starting today you can use Google Sync to get your Gmail messages pushed directly to your iPhone, iPod Touch, or Windows Mobile device.

You can set up push Gmail by itself or choose to sync your Contacts and/or Calendar as well. If you’re using an iPhone, make sure you’re running iPhone OS version 3.0 or above (on your device, click Settings > General > About and scroll down until you see Version). If your software is out of date, follow Apple’s upgrade instructions. Then, visit m.google.com/sync from your computer for set up instructions. If you’re already using Google Sync, you can just enable push mail.

New Google Chrome3 stable version

The addition of themes and the new start page come across as a surprise. These features were already available in the “unstable” beta builds of version 3 .  So, for those who were already using version 3, there is nothing much to say – except that there are the bug fixes and therefore, this one is actually a stable version.

Most impressive new feature of chrome is its homepage. They have tweaked the design of the homepage and now you can rearrange thumbnails of most-visited websites by simple clicking and dragging. Micro-blogging services have been attracting a lot of users lately. They are simple with no frills services which are great for both casual blogging as well as for serious purposes like blogging live about an event, concert etc.

While there are some search engines like the twitter search engine and Twingly, but they have their own drawbacks. Twitter search Engine is limited only to twitter and it sorts the tweets by date rather than by relevence.
